چکیده

The study of detached eclipsing binaries is one of the most powerful ways to investigate the properties of individual stars and stellar systems. We present preliminary masses, radii and effective temperatures for the eclipsing binary WWAurigae, which is composed of two metallic-lined A-type stars. We also reanalyse the data on HD23642, an A-type eclipsing binary member of the Pleiades open cluster with a metallic-lined component, and determine its distance to be 139 ± 4 pc. This is in agreement with the traditional Pleiades distance, but in disagreement with distance to the Pleiades, and to HD23642 itself, derived from Hipparcos trigonometrical parallaxes.

Towards an Accurate Determination of Parameters for Very Massive Stars: the Eclipsing Binary LMC-SC1-105

This paper presents a photometric and spectroscopic study of the bright blue eclipsing binary LMC-SC1-105, selected from the OGLE catalog as a candidate host of very massive stars (≥ 30M⊙). The system is found to be a doublelined spectroscopic binary, which indeed contains massive stars. The masses and radii of the components are M1 = 30.9 ± 1.0 M⊙, M2 = 13.0 ± 0.7 M⊙, and R1 = 15.1 ± 0.2 R⊙, R...

Observational tests of the GAIA expected harvest on eclipsing binaries

GAIA observations of eclipsing binary stars will have a large impact on stellar astrophysics. Accurate parameters, including absolute masses and sizes will be derived for ∼ 10 systems, orders of magnitude more than what has ever been done from the ground. Observations of 18 real systems in the GAIA-like mode as well as with devoted groundbased campaigns are used to assess binary recognition tec...

First Determination of the Distance and Fundamental Properties of an Eclipsing Binary in the Andromeda Galaxy1,2

We present the first detailed spectroscopic and photometric analysis of an eclipsing binary in the Andromeda Galaxy (M31). This is a 19.3-mag semi-detached system with components of late-O and early-B spectral types. From the light and radial velocity curves we have carried out an accurate determination of the masses and radii of the components. Their effective temperatures have been estimated ...

Eclipsing Binaries in the Macho Database: New Periods and Classifications for 3031 Systems in the Large Magellanic Cloud

Eclipsing binaries offer a unique opportunity to determine fundamental physical parameters of stars using the constraints on the geometry of the systems. Here we present a reanalysis of publicly available two-color observations of about 6800 stars in the Large Magellanic Cloud, obtained by the MACHO project between 1992 and 2000 and classified as eclipsing variable stars. Of these, less than ha...

RXJ 0529 . 4 + 0041 : a low – mass pre – main sequence eclipsing – spectroscopic binary ?

We report the discovery of a low–mass pre-main sequence eclipsing system among a sample of double-lined spec-troscopic binaries found recently on the basis of ROSAT follow-up observations in the Orion star forming region. From the analysis of the available photometric and spectro-scopic data, we derive orbital elements as well as fundamental stellar parameters for the individual components of t...
